Eagle Lake

Eagle Lake

11/13/2023: Eagle Lake trail is wonderful. For such a popular area we did not see too many people, but we did it on a weekday in November. Yes, there are definitely rocks to climb over especially after the waterfall. You might want to use trekking poles.

Marg’s Notes: Eagle Lake, Tahoe. Another beautiful morning. We did not rush out. Had breakfast & veverages. Rod’s neck & back are pretty sore. Left ~9:00. First mission was to get Rod a new hat to replace the one lost yesterday. found a good one (Tahoe) in South Lake. Then, on around the lake to Eagle Lake Trailhead. Quite a few cars parked, but not many people on the trail. The first part leads up to a bridge. Pretty steep w/ lots of stairs. A very pretty hike. Not too hard. We started ~11:00. Took about 1½ hours. We had some trail mix at the lake before heading down. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that Rod forgot his boots! He dried them in our place & forgot to take them out! Eventho our hike was only 2 miles, we called our hiking day and went to South Lake Brewing! Beer, Hummus & pretzel. A lot of food!

Leftover tortellini for dinner.

Rod’s Ramblings from the Trail: After yesterday's situation with the falling and so forth. A little bit sore today. At trailhead at 10:44 and the temperature is 48°.

Well, that was stupid! I left my boots at the apartment. Oh well, hopefully there will be no ice or water.

We got on the trailhead at exactly 11:00. Lots of people but that's to be expected on a trail so close to Lake Tahoe.

I've discovered that a very important safety tip is to not give blood less than a week before you go on hiking trips over a mile in elevation above where you live. You will, or at least I will, be exhausted.

There were a lot of cars at the trailhead. In fact, the lot was full. However, we have really not seen very many people. Perhaps the folks at the trailhead were just going to the falls and back or they were walking across the street to see the view of lake Tahoe.

The trail is littered with small boulders after the falls. It is like hiking up steps. Pretty steep too.

We arrived at the lake at 11:47. We took our time.

Had a snack right on the edge of the lake with almost nobody here, maybe two or three people. At 12:06 we are heading back.

There is Eagle Falls trail near Eagle Lake that you could take and go back to other lakes for a wonderful backpacking trip. Lots of lakes back that way.
